The Armillary Sphere ring is a band that opens into a celestial sphere, inspired by late 16th-century rings in the British Museum's horology archives. Elizabeth I's court was fascinated by the armillary sphere, an ancient instrument for mapping the heavens, and it became one of her most personal symbols, appearing again and again in her portraits as an emblem of wisdom, power and the cosmos.
Our modern, reimagined version fits comfortably as either a plain or decorative band. Open, it reveals a sphere of interlocking gold rings. Inside, it can be engraved with words of your choosing, a message known only to you when the ring is closed. Each ring is individually handmade in London, to order, and takes at least 25 hours to make. Please note, it cannot be sized due to the mechanism.
